To #hashtag, or not to hashtag?

Serving as a perfect follow on from my introductory Hashtag-tastic post, you should read Lilach Bullock’s #hashtastic overview.  Lilach, a Forbes social media power player, considers not just the evolution of the simple hashtag (for which we owe a huge amount of thanks to Chris Messina) on Twitter, but also how it has been embraced by several other social networking sites, from Instagram to, belatedly, Facebook.

Definitely worth a read – let me know your thoughts.  For me, the best explanation of a hashtag is still by Marc Custers:

“Personally I’ve always considered hashtags as a shortcut to similar information. Hashtags are for me a kind of twitter library shelf :-)

  1. Thanks Dan, appreciate you sharing my #Hashtag post which is an excellent follow up to your introductory one 🙂

Interesting to see how all the other social networks now embrace hashtags, and as you say belatedly Facebook – that must have hurt them lol 🙂
